Merrow Brand Sewing Machines for a variety of applications

the Merrow Brand Sewing Machine has defined a series of categories for more then 150 years.

Today we're going to list the top ten markets in which Merrow Brand Sewing Machines are best of class:

1. Hosiery - Merrow manufactures the 4D series machines for hosiery, toe-closing and decorative stitching.

2. Continuous Processing - the 70 and 72 class machines are designed specifically for joining materials together with a flat seam

3. Hemming - the Merrow 2D series machines were once the industry standard hemming machines, and have since been replaced with inexpensive japanese and chinese alternatives. The Merrow 2D machines continue to be the most refined and most reliable for industrial hemming

4. General Overlocking with a concentration on Medium to Heavyweight overlock sewing - the Merrow 3DW series machines are the best performing industrial overlock sewing machine for Sweaters, Fleece, and mid-weight wools. You can seam or edge your designs with these machines and like  all Merrow Machines they last a lifetime.

5. Emblems - the Merrow 3U machine is quite simply the best in the world for edging emblems

The New Emblem Application Page

6. Purl Stitching- the 2DNR series machines from Merrow lay out the tightest most delicate edge that can be sewn on fabric - bar none. There is no other sewing machine that can put as tight a purl edge on silks and delicate fabrics as the 2DNR machines. For lingerie the 2DNR machines are ideal.

7. Netting - Our 3DGE series machines for sewing laundry bags and seaming light nets
8. Shell Stitching - the Q series machines sew a high speed shell as a decoration on light and medium fabrics and can be applied with a mirrored backing allowing for reversible product

9. Crochet Stitching - Merrow has a complete line of crochet stitching machines, and manufactures the only high speed crochet machines in the world. The blanket stitch, large shell stitching and
10. Athletic Seaming - the new FS1 series of machine is built to create flat stitching that can replace a two needle coverstitch for athletic equipment. This machine was released in 2009 for testing and has since quickly been adopted as a replacement for high-end athletic apparel.

Merrowing Thread available from Emblem Edge (.com)

Now there is a Merrowing thread just for emblems available on emblemedge.com

What isn't explained clearly enough is that this is the upper looper thread for the Merrow M-3U - (a beautiful sewing machine)

In order to create great emblems you also need to have the needle and lower looper thread. There is quite a wide variety of opinion that exists concerning what one should use in the needle and lower looper - we won't even begin to try and settle the argument - but we will let you know that if you'd like a stitch sample that shows different types of emblem edges, all you need to do is call.  Perhaps if it would be of interest we'll post a selection on the blog.

Sewing Construction Filter Fabric with a Flat Seam

When a large construction company approached Merrow about joining one of the components in their green roofing system, we knew immediately the machine they needed. The problem: they needed a strong but flexible way to join dense weave, water permaeable filter material. The solution: the Merrow 70-D3B-2 LS. The 70-D3B-2 LS produces a permanent locked stitch (made with two threads) that can withstand the stress of being sandwiched between two layers of uneven material (soil and drainage fleece) without compromising the integrity of the seam or the permeability of the material. Merrow sewed off a sample of the actual filter fabric the client would be installing and shipped their 70-D3B-2 LS calibrated to sew flawlessly.

Email Reposting Gone Wild

In our continuing series of reposting our broadcast emails...
(that you can SIGN UP FOR HERE) (please do) (this way you won't have to come to the blog to read them)

.. here is the latest 3rd party issue of Merrow Email Edition Four:

One think I particularly liked about this issue was that it focused on one of the reasons we've been so successful in the Textile Finishing space and it gives a nice directed shout out to our OEM partners.

The relationship with OEMs is often tricky - and at Merrow we've decided that the most productive way to define our own value to to include as much information about the implementation options as possible - and then do what we do well and publish it online.

For instance
  •  Pugi has a completely Battry Powered Industrial Sewing Table. It's pretty cool - just plug it in at night and roll it around the factory during the day. It's like the Prius of Sewing Tables.
  • Monti and Pugi both offer very different but effective Tubular Knit Seaming Solutions. This is a tough problem and both companies have done a bang-up job solving it.
  • We have a new cutting solution for the automatic seaming of fabrics courtesy of Birch. We should name it the 'intimidator' ... picture a circular cutting blade attached to the front of the Merrow machine running down the railway on it's own. Happy Halloween!
And did i already mention that you would have seen this if you'd signed up for our email?

New reseller login for pricing and marketing content

We've spent the past couple of months asking our resellers (agents) what we could do to improve how we marketed and presented Merrow products to the world. The answer was generally -- 'GET US INFORMATION ... '

So we're starting with the place to get that information:

The agent dashboard is a place for Merrow agents to see pricing, product information and download marketing material. We have a slew of new content that we'll be rolling out first in the reseller section and then by email announcement.

As always please send an email to nate@merrow.com if you have any questions (or would like a login)

Merrow Continuous Processing

the Continuous Processing newsletter goes out

here's a screen shot ...

We've been working this month on the re-release of our nine styles of sewing machines dedicated to the joining fabric together in a continuous process.

Over the years we've been gathering information from customers about the hundreds of material types that Merrow Machines are sewing, and with the help of dozens of agents and end-users, we've standardized Merrow's 70 and 72 class line to address the most common material types.

Note that almost all of these machines have been available as custom orders in the past - the difference is that now we will keep them in stock and start new custom builds FROM each of these baselines.

We hope you enjoy the new content, please let us know if we've missed something important!

The MERROW 72-D3B-2

The MERROW 72-D3B-2
Butted Seam Sewing Machine for
KNIT MATERIALS

The Merrow 72-D3B-2 industrial sewing machine is designed to sew a consistent and flat butted seam on knit fabric. Specifically suited for tubular knits, the 72-D3B-2 can also be configured to sew a wide range of textiles. Like all 72-Class Merrow machines, it incorporates an extended feed system and specially designed cutters that allow the consistent movement of sewn material across the cutting surface. The 72-D3B-2 is hand assembled using high quality steel parts within the traditional Merrow cast iron frame, ensuring a perfect butted seam, even after years of use.

The 72-D3B-2'S specially designed feed system uses an elongated presser foot,
forward positioned cutters, and an extra feed dog to ensure a perfect butted
seam on knit fabrics.
