New Marketing Material for Merrow's Wet Seaming Solutions

Wet Seam
ing Solutions From Merrow
FOR USE IN TEXTILE FINISHING

The Merrow Industrial Air Motor is a standard mounting motor designed specifically for use in the wet and humid conditions of the textile finishing industry. The motor’s pneumatic system functions on compressed air, which not only creates a natural cooling process that makes it suitable for temperatures up to 250° F, but also eliminates the risk of electrical injury during operation.

The Merrow 70-D3B-2_CNP Industrial Butted Seam Machine has been chemically nickel plated (CNP) to allow for sewing on wet fabric and protecting the machine from the damage and corrosion typical in wet textile finishing environments.

Merrow

The purpose of this blog is to keep anyone interested, updated about Merrow. In this case it will be just a bit reflective

This post is a short excerpt from a letter drafted for the Management at Merrow.

__________

After traveling for close to two full months i've learned a lot about our business.

On the train several days ago I met a lebanese businessman and his son. They were curious about Merrow and we talked easily about our challenges and theirs. After a time the fat one asked if we had considered partnering with a company in the textile business who needed distribution worldwide and brand credibility (we haven't).

He went on to clarify his point, that these are things that cost millions to develop and more valuably take years and years to do. Operating in a global environment is one of the most expensive and challenging elements of the modern business.

Most companies who are not global simply cannot afford to build or operate the sales structure that Merrow has.

He had correctly seized on two of Merrow's major assets. There are others. A list of six:

1. management (our team is talented & ambitious)
2. brand recognition (151 countries visited Merrow.com in the last year)
3. product design (high quality, diverse range)
4. customer base (our customer list reads like a whose who in textiles)
5. global distribution (trained distribution in every major market in the world)
6. history (170 years in business)

I could as easily list sixteen things that Merrow needs to work on. In fact I think we spend most of our time (as we should) focused on the areas needing improvement.

Which is why I took the time to write this. I encourage everyone to take a step back, enjoy the things we do well as a company.

______
Over the next two months we will explore on this blog some of the things that make Merrow unique. As much to echo what i've heard over the past two months as to introduce new ideas. Again, perspective is important and I think our customers, our company and our distributors will benefit in the process.

Great Looking Press Coverage

In some cases the blog entry should be abbreviated; this is one of those cases.

Here is the cover & the story about Merrow. Enjoy.

American Made

Earlier in the week I got a text message around 7PM. It said "'npr reported that there are no sewing machines made in USA' am clng NPR tomorrow"

Later in the week (in an entirely separate context) an employee asked whether the fact that some of our parts were sourced abroad compromised our 'Made in the USA' tag.

I think it's a healthy and exciting discussion. Merrow is a remarkable company, and our machines are made in the US.

Simply put:

१.we build all Merrow sewing machines in Wareham, MA. Our machines are built from scratch in Wareham, MA USA. We sweat and labour to make each machine great. And the world benefits from the effort.

२. Our parts come from all over the world-(which includes the US...) - some percentage come from the US, and the balance from places you need a passport to visit. We have excellent partners worldwide-- and who wouldn't want that to exist? Our business model requires us to find the best partners, the best employees to build the strongest company in the industry.... there are no borders that intimidate us, nor do we create artificial constraints that would prevent us from working with the best.

We are an American Sewing Machine Company; and this has nothing to do with why Merrow is a great company. It wouldn't matter if we made the machines on the Moon. It is the team, the business model, and the company that makes us unique. We believe that we can impact our customers more significantly than anyone else-- and we'll prove it machine by hand-built machine.

So NPR: I listen everyday, and I hope the next time you tackle sewing machines you get the story straight.
