The NEW MERROW MG-2DFS-2!!!

merrow mail image 1.5
The MG-2DFS-2 is an advanced sewing machine that has been introduced in 2011 to sew on today's technical fabrics. Built on Merrow's unique cam driven architecture, the FS-2 sews a flat seam that replaces conventional cover and flatlock stitching. At 1/8” in width and with a simple two-thread design, the stitch is as attractive and comfortable as it is functional, and is nearly imperceptible when worn on base layer garments that rest next to skin. For visual distinction and technical performance, the MG-2DFS-2 is the next advancement in technical sewing.

MG-3U for Hook & Loop Patches

With the new MG-3U-V, you can now add the traditional Merrow edge to removable emblems. Merrow has configured the standard MG-3U to put a clean edge on hood and loop insignias and emblems without taking up the hook and loop material that adheres the patch. The result - an emblem that looks great and won't come off. The MG-3U-V uses a specifically configured finger plate and tension setting when sewing, both of which can be adjusted at the Merrow factory to suit the particular shape and size of end user patches.

Spring Update

It's 65º in MA today, and we've just finished 6 months of work at Merrow... it just feels like time for a quick blog update.

Over the next couple of days we'll be launching the new website (it's actually up.... but we're working the bugs out before a big announcement).

We'll also be rolling out the new Raven table from Merrow - it's a great product and our folks have both created a great product and great documentation around it.

There are new sewing machines scheduled to be announced over the next couple weeks as well.

And to top it off we are readying the launch of the Merrow Branded Stitch - a project two years in the works.

So it's exciting here, to say the least. I'm proud of all the work that's gone into this springs' product launches and new marketing work.

We're also taking the product line on the Road and if you ever head over to travels.merrow.com you'll see over the next couple weeks that Merrow will be visiting Turkey, Germany and China.

So stay tuned! It's going to be an interesting couple of weeks here!

The applications commith

For eons over at Merrow HQ we've lamented how rarely we communicate the number of really cool things we can sew. SOP is that a customer sends us some interesting (and challenging...) fabric and we build a machine for it and that's that.

Over the past couple of years we've tried different ways of managing this type of information. There was even a very short lived 'let's publish it to the blog...'  Fat lot of good that did.

Well - a new years resolution around here was to get this done, and get it done right.

The Creative Director has decided that it's happening in January. We think this motivation is also tied to his --probably much shorter lived effort to get back in shape-- but no one is going to complain.

 So what's it look like:

 How about this
 EMBLEMS
 or this
 BLANKETS
 or maybe this
 LINGERIE
 and some of this
 END-TO-END SEAMING

EDIT:

and a little more of this
 BABY GARMENTS

AND
MILITARY SEWING AND SEAMING (some nomex flight suits etc.. )

(there are 8 more to come... stay tuned)

Fact is that  we make machines that sew really hard, really beautiful, and sometime just plain awesome applications. And finally after a long long wait, we're going to be able to share some of these things with the world.

Enjoy - let us know what you think

Merrow Brand Sewing Machines for a variety of applications

the Merrow Brand Sewing Machine has defined a series of categories for more then 150 years.

Today we're going to list the top ten markets in which Merrow Brand Sewing Machines are best of class:

1. Hosiery - Merrow manufactures the 4D series machines for hosiery, toe-closing and decorative stitching.

2. Continuous Processing - the 70 and 72 class machines are designed specifically for joining materials together with a flat seam

3. Hemming - the Merrow 2D series machines were once the industry standard hemming machines, and have since been replaced with inexpensive japanese and chinese alternatives. The Merrow 2D machines continue to be the most refined and most reliable for industrial hemming

4. General Overlocking with a concentration on Medium to Heavyweight overlock sewing - the Merrow 3DW series machines are the best performing industrial overlock sewing machine for Sweaters, Fleece, and mid-weight wools. You can seam or edge your designs with these machines and like  all Merrow Machines they last a lifetime.

5. Emblems - the Merrow 3U machine is quite simply the best in the world for edging emblems

The New Emblem Application Page

Merrowing Thread available from Emblem Edge (.com)

Now there is a Merrowing thread just for emblems available on emblemedge.com

What isn't explained clearly enough is that this is the upper looper thread for the Merrow M-3U - (a beautiful sewing machine)

In order to create great emblems you also need to have the needle and lower looper thread. There is quite a wide variety of opinion that exists concerning what one should use in the needle and lower looper - we won't even begin to try and settle the argument - but we will let you know that if you'd like a stitch sample that shows different types of emblem edges, all you need to do is call.  Perhaps if it would be of interest we'll post a selection on the blog.

Sewing Construction Filter Fabric with a Flat Seam

When a large construction company approached Merrow about joining one of the components in their green roofing system, we knew immediately the machine they needed. The problem: they needed a strong but flexible way to join dense weave, water permaeable filter material. The solution: the Merrow 70-D3B-2 LS. The 70-D3B-2 LS produces a permanent locked stitch (made with two threads) that can withstand the stress of being sandwiched between two layers of uneven material (soil and drainage fleece) without compromising the integrity of the seam or the permeability of the material. Merrow sewed off a sample of the actual filter fabric the client would be installing and shipped their 70-D3B-2 LS calibrated to sew flawlessly.

Email Reposting Gone Wild

In our continuing series of reposting our broadcast emails...
(that you can SIGN UP FOR HERE) (please do) (this way you won't have to come to the blog to read them)

.. here is the latest 3rd party issue of Merrow Email Edition Four:

One think I particularly liked about this issue was that it focused on one of the reasons we've been so successful in the Textile Finishing space and it gives a nice directed shout out to our OEM partners.

The relationship with OEMs is often tricky - and at Merrow we've decided that the most productive way to define our own value to to include as much information about the implementation options as possible - and then do what we do well and publish it online.

For instance
  •  Pugi has a completely Battry Powered Industrial Sewing Table. It's pretty cool - just plug it in at night and roll it around the factory during the day. It's like the Prius of Sewing Tables.
  • Monti and Pugi both offer very different but effective Tubular Knit Seaming Solutions. This is a tough problem and both companies have done a bang-up job solving it.
  • We have a new cutting solution for the automatic seaming of fabrics courtesy of Birch. We should name it the 'intimidator' ... picture a circular cutting blade attached to the front of the Merrow machine running down the railway on it's own. Happy Halloween!
And did i already mention that you would have seen this if you'd signed up for our email?
